Random Things...

Very few people really know me, deep, deep, down inside. I keep much of me “in-check”, just so you don’t get offended. Too often, I worry about what others think. Sometimes I wish I could just spew the crazy emotions inside and let people just deal with it. But I don’t. Cause I really can’t afford to lose my friends and family. Some days I feel caged, trapped, and utterly frustrated by the recesses of my mind. People say I think too much. It’s true. I over-analyze and under-rate almost everything. I will blame my scientific, perfectionist, dramatic personality that I’m genetically disposed to. I guess it isn’t my fault and my forefathers are to blame. :) God knew what He was doing when He yoked me with my husband. My soul mate sees me at my worst, and still chooses to love me. He is God’s picture of unconditional love to me. There are days I rant and rave and over-react. More often than not, he just listens without judging or offers the opposite perspective to challenge me – how be...

One-Third of One Percent

Did you know that 99.7% of money collected by Christian organizations is spent on populations that have already heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ? That means only 0.3% of funds are allocated to unreached people groups.* What in the world!? So I am wondering... What would a church budget look like if Missions was more of a priority? Would we spend less on paid pastors who are hired to make our lives easier, dare I say, and more on grassroots initiatives that share Christ's gospel in word and deed outside the church walls, into the community, country, and world? What would happen if Christians put a cap on their lifestyles and invested all excess funds in telling others about the Good News of Jesus Christ instead of increasing household spending with each subsequent pay raise? Granted, reaching out to one's community is vitally important. But how many of us use that as an excuse to stay in our comfort zone instead of venturing out to another culture to share our faith? Is...

Mourning the Loss

Image
My Daughter & I In an alternate universe influenced by a series of different decisions, I would have entered a classroom this week, arrayed in a steel gray pant suit, bright blouse, and black heels with funky jewelry to match. I’d eagerly anticipate teaching young teens the logical beauty (and chaos) of mathematics and science while feeling torn about leaving my children in the care of another. Regardless, my teaching career would resume after the completion of a two year parental leave. And I’d once again contribute to the income of our family. But I live in a different world, where I have resigned my teaching position to continue my current job of being a “stay-at-home-mom”, a decision I welcome and celebrate. Yet, I mourn. Ironically, as our trees begin to bloom and the grass embraces green, I feel like I'm marking the death of a season. Physiologically, I'm in Autumn while nature around me resurrects itself with the brilliant, dazzling color of Spring. Thus, I...

Weight Loss {The Power of Small Permanent Changes}

I was at my chubbiest thirteen years ago. I wouldn’t say I was fat, but I was definitely wide. I wore double digit sizes and weight loss was an insurmountable challenge. To be honest, I was ashamed of the way I looked. However, I didn’t think I could do anything about reducing my size except for radical dieting and over-the-top exercise routines...
